How to distinguish genuine leather from leather?

Hand feeling: Touch the leather surface with your hands to feel smooth and smooth (the grain surface is processed into coarse leather), and the soft, thin and elastic feel is genuine leather. Touch the surface of the leather with your hands. If the surface feels smooth, soft, thin, and elastic, it is leather. Genuine leather shoes generally feel astringent to the touch. Faux leather will be smoother and will fade color easily. Eye view: The main purpose is to distinguish the type of leather and the quality of the grain surface of the leather. Observe that the surface of the genuine leather has obvious honeycomb and pattern, and although the synthetic leather also imitates the honeycomb, it is not as real as it is. In addition, the reverse side of synthetic leather has a layer of textile as the base plate, which is used to increase its tensile strength, while the reverse side of the genuine leather has no such layer of textiles. This identification is the simplest and practical method.

Observing the surface of the leather, there will be clear pores. The pores of cowhide and pigskin are different. Pigskin will be thicker, while cowhide has relatively uniform fine pores and is relatively sparse. But with the continuous improvement of skills, the current leather is difficult to distinguish with the naked eye. At this point you can use the touch. Press the leather surface with your thumb to see if there is a fine leather grain next to the thumb. There are fine lines, and the fine lines disappear immediately after letting go of your hands, indicating that the elasticity is relatively good, and it is genuine leather, while the leather with larger and deeper lines is inferior to artificial leather. Smell with the nose: genuine leather has a leather smell, while artificial leather has a strong plastic smell. The smell of the two is completely different. Good-quality leather generally has no peculiar smell, and all genuine leather has a leather smell. If there is a pungent peculiar smell, it may be due to poor handling during the tanning process and excessive use of certain chemical raw materials.

Leather is processed animal skin. Since the emergence of artificial leather, leather covers genuine leather and artificial leather. To be correct, genuine leather is also leather. And what we want to distinguish is leather and leather (fake leather). The real leather here refers to animal skin. The biggest features of animal skin are pores, texture, structure, smell, flexibility, elasticity, and hardness. It is relatively simple to distinguish the smell, you can smell it with your nose, or you can burn a small part of it, and there is obviously an unpleasant smell of singeing.
